The dental filling is used to repair the tooth to its primary structure and use and to return your smile to good health. There are two main types of dental fillings available: amalgam fillings and composite fillings.

The process for putting a filling needs just one comfortable visit to our office. Our dentist will first remove the decayed and infected portion of your tooth, and then clean the tooth to eliminate all traces of decay. We then fill the tooth with the filling material and shape it to match your tooth’s shape. Finally, the filling is hardened for a lasting restoration.

White fillings are formed from a high-strength composite pitch that can be quickly color-matched to your original tooth making it nearly transparent to you and anyone else. Unlike silver and gold fillings, composite tooth-colored fillings really bond to the tooth which means they support the neighboring tooth structure, which serves to prevent damage and protect the tooth from extreme temperature variations. The dentist will then use a dental handpiece or laser to start removing the broken or decayed part of the tooth. There is now a broad open space in the tooth that the dentist will clean with an acid gel to remove any remaining trash or bacteria. The method of actually removing the decayed part of the tooth is completely painless, as is the process of injecting the filling.

Further, some patients may experience sensitivity in the affected tooth for up to a week following the procedure, especially while eating and drinking, as the tooth gets used to the filling. This is completely normal and is not a cause for alarm

Of course, the main advantage of a white filling is that no one can tell you that you have filled. Your filling will appear no different from your natural tooth. White fillings are also ideal for smaller cavities and will help to strengthen the remaining part of your tooth.

The whole procedure takes few minutes. The filling is a Quick and relatively simple procedure, it doesn’t take much longer to complete. A typical filling procedure only takes 20 to 30 min. If you have some cavities that need to be filled, your dentist may treat them over many visits.
